Collaborative Partnerships in Learning
-
As an experienced educator and administrator in the field of Special Education, Allison has been able to focus her teaching and leadership on ensuring that all students are provided with access to successful learning opportunities in school. At the core of this work is the development of collaborative opportunities and bridging the gap between parents and school districts so that all participants are working towards the same goal: improving learning outcomes for students served.
Allison has served as both a general education and special education teacher and administrator for the past 22 years. At the core of her philosophy is the belief that all students are able to learn if they are just provided with the appropriate supports and services within their daily learning environment.
Allison’s extensive experience is not only in providing these learning experiences in her own classroom. She is a part of a child with an IEP and had to navigate the field of Special Education on the other side. She wants to bring her experience to other parents going down the same path.
In addition, she has successfully designed and trained hundreds of educators, school and district administrators, and families in developing and providing appropriate learning environments for students in schools. At the core of this work is her belief that ongoing collaboration and communication between school snad families provides the most positive outcomes for student. When schools and families are at odds, the students are ultimately the ones to miss out.
For the reasons above, Collaborative Partnerships in Learning was formed. Allison is committed through this work to bring schools and families together in partnership to ensure the highest level of outcomes for all children grades Preschool through Adult.
Our approach
Let’s face it, as parents and educators, we would do anything to help a struggling child. It’s painful to see a child hit a wall, not reach their potential, and begin to doubt their own abilities. Feelings of frustration and helplessness arise when the path to getting help is confusing, murky, and unknown.
Collaborative Partnerships in Learning is here to help you navigate that path.
By working as a team with parents/guardians, students, school administration and staff, Collaborative Partnerships in Learning facilitates bridge-building with the goal of securing appropriate supports, services, and programs needed to overcome challenges to success in school.
Our services
-
Once a parent determines that their child is struggling in school, we can successfully guide parents through the process of communicating their concerns with the school. Whether this is simply notifying their child’s teacher or putting together a formal request for assessment, our team will provide parents with the next steps.
-
The first step in formally identifying the resources a child needs in order to be successful includes assessing where they’re at, identifying areas where students are having difficulty, and what barriers need to be removed in order to improve their access to learning. We help guide parents through the complicated assessment process and review existing data to identify next steps in collaborating with school site staff. The goal is the development of an effective and collaborative plan of support for each child.
-
Once we identify where learning is being impacted, we work with parents, the student, and school staff to develop educational strategies and customized individual support plans tailored to the individual needs of each student.
Individual support plans can come in many forms including Student Success Team Plans, Section 504 plans, and Individual Education Plans. We will assist parents in understanding and how best to navigate the process of support their child receives to ensure they are able to walk into each meeting with confidence and collaborative skills ensuring the most successful outcomes for their child.
-
Ensuring the proposed student accommodations and services are having a positive effect on the student’s ability to learn is paramount to their success. But how do you know if these supports and services are working?
We work with parents to develop their knowledge around measurable goals, services, accommodations and to advocate for regular review of progress in their areas. By empowering parents with these skills, they will be able to increase positive communication and collaboration with their child’s teacher to check on their child’s progress and evaluate if any support needs to be modified or if additional accommodations need to be added to the plan.
For 504 plans, we can support parents in being a collaborative partner in their annual reviews. For IEPs, parents will participate in an annual review and 3 year eligibility evaluation. We can provide ongoing guidance throughout each process.
-
When schools provide special education services, or supports through a 504 plan, they must be in compliance with federal and state regulations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA and the Section 504 Rehabilitation Act.
Our expertise in educational compliance as it relates to IEPs or Section 504 ensures all services are delivered correctly and as promised to meet legal standards. We’re well versed in mandatory compliance reporting required by the state and conduct audits to identify any compliance gaps.
